I'm Ali!

to grow yourself, you got to know yourself - shrink chicks

If I wasn't a therapist I would travel, plan vacations and explore the world! I recently travelled to Banff, Alberta and crossed off a bucket list item - skating on Lake Louise. The view and ability to stand within the mountains while doing something I love (skating) was a surreal moment. With some places crossed off the bucket list and many more added, travelling is a passion and something that I think is extremely beneficial in all avenues.

So why am I a therapist? I've always enjoyed hearing life stories and learning the behind-the-scenes of why people are the way they are. I've also experienced my own moments of not knowing how to manage situations, coping through difficult experiences, and my own self-growth. There isn't a book on how to get through life without making mistakes or going through dark or difficult experiences. How are we supposed to figure it out if we weren't taught it? We do what we know and we only know what we know. I became a therapist to unconditionally support my clients, to be a consistent and non-judgemental role in their life, and provide a space for them to show emotion without fear and in a space of empathy.

My experience started in residential treatment and youth justice for several years before transitioning into child welfare, and shortly after into children's mental health. I've obtained a diploma in Child and Youth Work from Fanshawe College, a Bachelor of Social Work from Wilfrid Laurier University and I'm currently completing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology via Yorkville University. I'm currently completing an internship in a group practice with a focus on couples and individuals with anxiety, depression, marital issues, and trauma. I utilize an eclectic approach bringing in interventions from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Emotionally Focused Therapy

*DISCLAIMER: While both Be Well Therapy Studio and Better Life Therapy value collaborative care regarding mental health, they are each independent in their skillset, expertise, and capacity of care to address presenting concerns. Both Nicole Lobo, Registered Psychotherapist (owner of Be Well Therapy Studio) and Ali Woods, Social Worker (owner of Better Life Therapy) are two separate entities with different opinions, designations, and approaches to care. Please consult individual clinicians to assess best fit for needs of care.
